Who am I?

¡Hola! Thanks for stopping by.

I’m Gabriela Huallanca, founder of Haku Spanish.

I help motivated adults develop real Spanish fluency through the Haku Method: Understand to Speak—an immersive approach designed to help learners understand and communicate naturally in Spanish.

After thousands of hours working with adult learners, I created this method to provide a clearer and more effective path to fluency than traditional memorization-based language programs.

My goal is simple: to help you move beyond studying Spanish and begin using it confidently in real-life communication.

Background in Language Education

My journey in language education began in 2008 in Peru, where I taught English as a Second Language in private schools while also working at one of Lima’s leading language centers specializing in Business English.

Those early experiences gave me valuable insight into how learners develop communication skills in a new language.

Driven by my passion for language education, I later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Foreign Language Education, with a double major in Spanish and English as a Second Language.

After relocating to the United States, I began teaching Spanish online in 2015, working with adult learners from beginner to advanced levels who wanted to develop greater confidence communicating in Spanish.

Today I hold a North Carolina teaching license with certifications in:

• Spanish
• English as a Second Language
• Special Education

In addition to my work as a language educator, I am currently pursuing certification as a federal and North Carolina court interpreter, a professional path that requires a very high level of listening accuracy, linguistic precision, and command of Spanish.

These experiences have shaped the thoughtful, personalized approach I now use through the Haku Method: Understand to Speak, helping learners develop real communication skills through structured guidance and meaningful conversation.

My Cultural Connection to Spanish

Spanish has always been more than just a language to me—it is deeply connected to culture, identity, and human connection.

Growing up in Peru, I experienced firsthand how language brings people together and opens doors to meaningful relationships and cultural understanding.

Through Haku Spanish, my goal is not simply to teach vocabulary or grammar, but to help learners experience the richness of the Spanish-speaking world through authentic communication.

Why I Created the Haku Method

Over the years, I noticed a pattern among many intelligent, motivated learners.

They spent years studying Spanish—memorizing vocabulary lists, reviewing grammar explanations, and using language apps—yet still felt uncomfortable speaking in real conversations.

The problem was rarely motivation.

The problem was the method.

Traditional language learning often emphasizes memorization rather than meaningful communication.

That realization led me to develop the Haku Method: Understand to Speak, which combines meaningful comprehension with guided conversation practice so learners can gradually develop the ability to understand and communicate naturally in Spanish.

My Teaching Philosophy

I believe language learning should feel engaging, supportive, and deeply human.

At Haku Spanish, mistakes are not failures—they are an essential part of the learning process. Every attempt to communicate brings you closer to fluency.

My goal is to create a learning environment where students feel comfortable experimenting with the language, building confidence step by step, and developing the ability to communicate clearly and naturally in Spanish.

Who I Work With

Many of the learners I work with are:

• professionals who interact with Spanish-speaking clients or colleagues
• travelers who want deeper cultural connection abroad
• adults who feel frustrated with apps or self-study programs
• motivated learners ready to pursue real Spanish fluency

These students are looking for more than vocabulary lists—they want to communicate meaningfully in Spanish.
